If we are rushing to
get someone hired, stop and check to see if it’s because we feel excited about
them too early on. Is he someone you really like (someone like us, naturally)
versus someone who is actually the best fit for the job.
Hiring new employees
purposefully is one of the most direct ways to build a company’s success amidst
growing external challenges.
We need to have the
best people working for us to beat the competition and the most intelligent way
is to enhance our team’s abilities at a level much higher than our competitors.
Hiring manager might
compare a candidate’s qualifications with that of the job description. The most
fitting applicant for a position often needs to be far better at many
competencies than the actual manager doing the hiring or the person that
they’ll be reporting to, for that matter. Highly competent employees improve
the performance of their teams by imparting their knowledge.
They are created and
recreated through continuous knowledge building and skills development for
personal growth. Some managers see themselves as victims in their personal and
professional lives. They maintain an outlook that things are being done to them
and refuse to take responsibility for business outcomes.
As per the census the
total number of people employed in Sri Lanka was estimated at 8.10million during the
period 2018, when compared to 8.30million in 2017.
The unemployment rate
recorded for the fourth quarter of 2017 (4Q17) was 4.0percent. the unemployment
in absolute numbers also rose in the last quarter of 2018 to 389,000 persons
when compared to 342,000 persons during 2017.
However, almost 70,000
people joined the service sector in 2018. The service sector employed
3.8miilion people or 46.7percent of 8.1million employed at end 2018.
Success focused
employees will always choose candidates who complement their skills and
abilities. Hiring people who are smarter than us means that the work can be
confidently delegated over time. Then focus on the important stuff – growing
our business and hiring more players.
When hiring people we
should follow the proven method of skills assessment, bench marking and
communicating to ensure our company will continue on an upward trend for years
to come.
